In the name of research

As a designer, I often make a design decision without thinking why, just knowing it’s the right thing to do. Occasionally clients want to know why.

So, here’s the beginnings of a list (that I’ll keep adding to) of research that’s relevant to the work I do:

Serifs and font legibility

Question: Do serifs make text more legible?

Conclusion: Not particularly.

The effect of colour on message legibility

Question: Are certain colour combinations harder to read than others?

Conclusion: Yes.
