Cheryl Stephens
I was recently asked to contribute to the design chapter of Plain Language in Plain English by Cheryl Stephens. Presumably what I had to say was fairly convincing, because no sooner had I finished the writing than I was asked to design the book as well. The brief for the design was to create a simple design that kept it looking like a book, but helped readers navigate their way through the book’s 200 pages.
Plain Language in Plain English is a comprehensive guide to researching the audience, planning the text and (perhaps unsurprisingly) creating plain language, with a list of contributors that read like a who’s who of plain language experts – and me too.
Also included within the book was my bmi baby baggage allowance project – with a few little changes made to protect the guilty party.
Plain Language in Plain English, and a number of other plain language books are available at plainlanguagewizardry.com
